How Coral reefs are formed


Coral polyps are micro organisms which lives in colonies together.They live in warm water at 25 degrees and secretes lime .The polyps died, the skeleton made up of calcium carbonate and forms reefs.Theses polyps live in water where the salinity of the water constant.

* Great barrier reef is the largest coral reef in the world located at the north east of Australia.

Types of coral reefs 

Fringing reefs 

These are formed at the coastal lines of the country's and islands.

Barrier reefs 

These are separated from coastal line and formed parallel to land,these are deeper and wider lagoons.

Atolls 

These are circular in structure with breakage of chains,formed in middle of the sea or oceans.

Patch reefs

These are small and formed at bottom level of the continent shelf.
