Paika rebellion of 1817 - First Armed Rebellion in India


Paika rebellion of 1817 was the first armed rebellion against British East India Company, for against giving their free own land to landless by their policies.

The paikas are traditionally armed warriors of Odisha and military service to kingdom of Khurda ,they were free rental land to their but the policies of British forcibly moved land to landless this result paika rebellion in 1817. Bakshi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar chief of military in Khurda kingdom led the forces against the East India Company and supported by many Zamindars,Rajas,local peasants however they were defeated by the British in arresting them and killed.
